ACADEMICS

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theology program is a course of study designed to educate students in the major philosophical or theological disciplines. It is designed to prepare men and women for ministry, teaching, or vocations in philosophy, religion or general studies. The program attempts to expose students to both Catholic and Reformed perspectives of theology. It is also structured as preparation for graduate work. Bachelor of Arts graduates may choose to complete the Licentiate in Parish Ministry (Lic-P), Master of Arts in Theology, or Master of Sacred Theology degree and be admitted to the priesthood with any number of independent Catholic churches. For Bachelor of Arts students, there are mandatory "core courses" supplemented by such electives as chosen by the student. Either a Bachelor's thesis or the Bachelor's Comprehensive Examination is required for graduation. Candidates entering graduate studies specifically for the priesthood should consider at least one course in both Hebrew and New Testament Greek as they may be required prior to ordination. Saint Ambrose uses the "Moodle" Course Delivery System.

COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION or MASTER'S THESIS

Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts in Theology, Master of Arts in Theology, Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling, Master of Sacred Theology, Licentiate in Parish Ministry, or Doctor of Pastoral Counseling, opting to take the Comprehensive Examination will be examined on several areas of concentrated study. Questions will be provided to each student nearing completion of the program. Candidates opting to write a thesis must have the topic reviewed and approved by the thesis committee prior to enrolling in the course.
